Never Say Die…Or Difficult To Cure?
It is rumoured that Hipgnosis (the avant garde sleeve designers most famous for their Pink Floyd concepts) had this ‘masked doctors’ photo lying around for a few years before it was used for Rainbow’s ‘Difficult To Cure’ album cover. It was allegedly originally intended for use as Black Sabbath’s ‘Never Say Die!’ album back in 1978…would it have looked like the above picture? I doubt Hipgnosis would have used the same military typography on the doctors concept, perhaps it would have been closer to the eventual Rainbow typefaces used, see below for a more likely version…
